Bolivia to Invest in Lithium and Potassium Production
Bolivia is planning to invest $450m in a project to begin the production of lithium carbonate and potassium chloride.
Bolivia said the proposed plant would be able to produce 30,000t of lithium carbonate and 700,000t of potassium chloride annually within three or four years.
Bolivia will launch a pilot plant in the next six months, which is initially expected to produce 1,000t of potassium chloride per month.
After three months, the plant is also expected to begin producing nearly 40t of lithium carbonate per month.
Lithium carbonate is the main component in rechargeable batteries, while potassium chloride is used in the production of fertilisers, according to the Latin American Herald Tribune.
