Shell Chemicals has completed the first turnaround at the CSPCL Nanhai petrochemicals joint venture complex in Guangdong, China.
Shell said it has also carried out the debottlenecking of the ethylene cracker and process units, which will increase CSPCL's capacity and reduce unit costs.
The company said that following the debottlenecking, the annual ethylene capacity has increased from 800kt a year to 950kt a year, while the total petrochemical capacity at the plant rose from 2.3 million tonnes to 2.7 million tonnes.
The project involved the construction of an eighth liquid cracking furnace for light and heavy feedstock, where four out of five derivative plants were debottlenecked by 10% to 30%.
