Saudi Aramco and Dow to Move Proposed Chemical Plant
Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical have decided to shift their proposed chemical and plastics plant on the Persian Gulf coast from Ras Tanura to Jubail.
The companies believe the industrial city will provide infrastructure benefits and better opportunities for growth.
The plant was proposed in 2006 and is expected to produce 1.8 million tonnes of ethylene from naphtha and ethane feedstock a year. It will also manufacture chlorine and polyvinyl chloride.
The engineering and design work of the facility is scheduled to be complete by mid-2011, with production to begin in 2015.
