EPA to Fine Formosa Plastics Group Unit for Air Pollution
The Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) said it will fine Formosa Plastics Group's petrochemical complex in Mailiao, Taiwan, TWD1m ($31,252) a day for air pollution caused by a fire at the complex.
The fire at the oil refinery in the No 6 naphtha cracker complex on 25 July caused massive fish deaths due to falling particles from the fire, the EPA said.
After the fires occurred, the two plants were ordered to suspend operations.
The recent outbreak was the second in less than a month at the complex, following a blaze at an alkene plant on 7 July.
