Samsung Total Closes Daesan Naphtha Unit

27 July 2010

Samsung Total in South Korea has shut down its naphtha cracking unit in Daesan due to lightning disruptions.

The 850,000t per year unit was involved in converting naphtha, a petrochemical feedstock, to polyethylene and polypropylene.

The cracker is a joint venture of Samsung Group and Total Group in France, which each have a 50% stake.

The company did not say when the unit would reopen, according to yarnsandfibers.com.
