Sasol Drops Five Fertiliser Facilities

Sasol Chemical Industries (SCI) is to divest five of its fertiliser blending facilities in South Africa, with the exception of its Secunda plant, as part of a settlement agreement with the Competition Commission.

The settlement concerns SCI's abuse of dominance, exclusionary conduct and price discrimination in supplying ammonia and derivative fertiliser products.

Sasol was fined R250m ($32m) as part of the settlement for the abuse aspect of the fertiliser case.

The other parties in the collusion case, Kynoch (Yara) and Omnia, are defending the case in the tribunal, according to TimesLive.

The application for confirmation of the settlement agreement by the Competition Tribunal is expected to be heard on 14 July, the commission said.
