DSM and Roquette Collaborate to Develop Bio-Based Succinic Acid
Netherlands-based Royal DSM has entered into a joint venture agreement with France-based Roquette Frères for the production, commercialisation and market development of bio-based succinic acid.
The transaction, subject to regulatory approvals and notifications, plans to focus on applications such as 1,4 butanediol (BDO), polyurethane resins and biopolymers such as polybutylene succinate (PBS) into applications among others in paints and coatings, automotive and textiles.
Both the partners will hold an equal stake in the new entity, Reverdia V.o.f., which will be based in the Netherlands.
DSM and Roquette will elaborate the technical breakthrough and proprietary process for the manufacture of bio-based succinic acid for an improved environmental footprint.
Fermentation-based succinic acid will replace existing fossil-based succinic acid and open new applications, while delivering a better environmental performance, the companies said.
