Samsung and Maire Tecnimont to Build Chemical Plants in UAE


South Korea's Samsung Engineering and Italian Maire Tecnimont SpA have won a $1.66bn contract from Borouge to build chemical plants in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Under the contract, both engineering firms will build two polyethylene units with a capacity of 1.08 million tpa and two polypropylene units with a capacity of 900,000 tpa.

The plants will be constructed in Ruwais on the Gulf coast outside the city of Abu Dhabi.

The project, in which Samsung Engineering will hold 48.5% stake, is expected to be completed by September 2013, according to yonhapnews.co.kr.
