Lanxess Breaks Ground for New Rubber Plant in Singapore

Specialty chemicals manufacturer Lanxess has broken ground for the construction of a new butyl rubber plant on Jurong Island in Singapore.

The €400m ($575m) facility will use 10-15% of its investment for environmental protection measures.

The 200,000m² plant will produce 100,000t of synthetic rubber per year when it begins production in 2013.

Shell, which runs a neighbouring refinery, will provide the plant with a long-term supply of isobutene for production.

The plant will also be equipped with ultramodern flue gas purification systems, which will reduce greenhouse gases and waste water.
