EPA Launches Chemical Toxicity Database

5 May 2010

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has launched a chemical hazard, exposure and toxicity database for scientists and the general public.

ToxRefDB, which will include 30 years and $2bn of testing results, will be available to search, find and compare available studies about chemical toxicity and potential health effects.

It is part of Aggregated Computational Toxicology Resource (ACToR) and provides detailed chemical toxicity data in an accessible format.

ToxRefDB's toxicity information will form the basis for pesticide risk assessments when combined with other sources of information.

It will be linked with an EPA chemical screening tool called ToxCast.

ToxCast includes 500 fast, automated chemical screening tests that have assessed over 300 environmental chemicals.
