Brandix First to Trial Chemical Leasing Concept

4 May 2010

Sri Lanka-based Brandix Group said it is the first apparel manufacturer in the country to trial a new methodology to promote the more efficient and sustainable management of chemicals in manufacturing processes.

Chemical Leasing (ChL), promoted by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), wants to convert suppliers of chemicals from sellers of products to providers of a service.

The concept makes the efficient consumption of chemicals a priority for their supplier, reducing chemical consumption between 20% and 30%, slashing production cost, and ultimately benefiting the environment and contributing to environmental sustainability initiatives, the company said.

Brandix Group is to adopt the pilot application of chemical leasing in its world-class thread manufacturing company, American & Efird (A&E).
