New Polysilicon Facilities Open at Wacker's Burghausen Site

Wacker Chemie AG has opened new polycrystalline-silicon production facilities at its Burghausen site in Germany under the expansion stage 8 plan, to manufacture material for the solar and semiconductor market.

The €500m ($665m) expansion stage is fully linked with the Burghausen site's integrated silicon production system.

The plant is expected to produce 10,000t per year before the end of Q2 2010.

All "Expansion Stage 8" deposition reactors, with an investment of €2bn ($2.6bn), are up and running.

The expansion has increased company's polysilicon production capacity to over 25,000t per year, the company said.
