A fire that injured two workers has forced CAWC to close its manufacturing plant in Pasig City, in the Philippines.
The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Pasig City ordered CAWC to stop the operations at the plant and to stop the demolition activities in the area.
The fire on Thursday 11 March in the storage room of CAWC's logistics department was followed by an explosion that razed the storage room, Chemphil said in a report to the Philippine Stock Exchange.
Liquefied petroleum gas, acetylene tanks and machine oil stored in drums were burned and damaged in addition to finished products and some filter aid materials.
Firefighters put out the fire in under 12 minutes.
The CENRO has ordered CAWC to submit a toxic and hazardous waste management plan; a chemical accident prevention plan; a transport permit and disposal permit and penalties under the existing ordinance and Clean Air Act, according to newsinfo.inquirer.net.
CAWC, a subsidiary of Chemical Industries of the Philippines, may also face charges under existing ordinances and the Clean Air Act.
