A new plastic recycling centre in Watts, Oklahoma, US will more than double Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies' (AERT) capacity.
The $13m, 70,000ft² plant will produce recycled resin at significantly lower costs and employ 45 people.
When complete the plant will be able to produce all the recycled polyethylene AERT needs, allow the company to better manage its raw material costs and enable it to use lower-priced more highly contaminated plastic film.
The Watts plant will save 20–30% on the feedstock costs of AERT and help secure prices going forward, according to plasticsnews.com.
The plant has room for two additional recycling lines, and was designed to meet standards set by the US Green Building Council for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), and is seeking LEED certification.
AERT also expects to sell recycled resin to other companies and plans to add additional storage and equipment shortly so it can blend and reformulate the plastics into resins it can sell to other manufacturers.
