Brazilian firm Petrobras has awarded a contract to Skanska to construct the first processing unit of a new refinery for crude oil at Petrobras Petrochemical Complex in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil.
The total value of the contract is $623m, of which Skanska will have a 40% share.
The project includes a crude and distillation unit for crude oil entering the refinery and will cover an area of 45km².
Under the contract, Skanska will design detailed engineering executions and construction of the facilities, including electromechanical installations, procure material and equipment and also provide assistance in connection with start-up and operation.
After completion, the unit will process about 150,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
The project is expected to be complete by 2013.
