R3 Sciences Begins Work on Gas-to-Methanol Micro Plant

US-based R3 Sciences said it has started building a commercial scale, skid-mounted gas process system at a construction site in South Louisiana.

This system employs several key advancements in micro-plant and gas-to-liquid technology, and will produce up to 500,000gal per year of methanol.

Instead of burning the natural gas as a flare, the gas-to-methanol micro plant offers a low-temperature and pressure alternative, which also helps to reduce costs.

The R3 Sciences micro-plant is expected to be commissioned by June 2010 using natural gas feedstock.

Additional field units are planned for natural gas producing regions in the US, Canada, and Australia, the company said.
