Bidding Begins for Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Plant

Four companies have placed bids for a retender to develop a petrochemical plant at Saudi Kayan Petrochemical's complex in Jubail, Saudi Arabia.

US company Fluor, Taiwan's CTCI, Daelim Industrial and South Korea's Hyundai Engineering and Construction have bid for the 210,000tpa plant.

Two bidding companies said an award is likely to be made in January.

Daelim and CTCI have also placed final bids for development of a 300,000tpa low-density polyethylene plant at Kayan's complex.

Kayan said the main units of the petrochemical complex will begin operations in the second half of 2010.

The production capacity per annum of the complex will be six million tonnes of petrochemicals including propylene, ethylene, and ethylene glycol from 16 plants.
