Air Products to Build Hydrogen Plant in US
US chemical company Air Products has entered into an agreement with agricultural firm Monsanto to build a new world-scale hydrogen production plant in Louisiana, US.
Air Products will build a steam methane reformer (SMR) at Monsanto's Roundup facility, which will produce over 100 million standard cubic feet of hydrogen a day.
The SMR will be linked to the Air Products East Gulf Coast pipeline network, which supplies refineries with hydrogen to make cleaner-burning transportation fuels, and serves the hydrogen needs of the local petrochemical industry.
French construction and engineering firm Technip will provide design and construction expertise for steam reformers while gas separation technology will be provided by Air Products.
The new plant is scheduled to become operational in January 2012.
