Baker Hughes to Open Oilfield Facilities in Canada

Oilfield services company Baker Hughes has announced it will open a purpose-built oilfield chemicals plant and a multi-purpose operations centre in Canada by October 2009.

The 41,000f² chemical plant in Leduc will feature an oil sands laboratory, a water-based blending vessel, a sensitive chemicals mixer, an 18-tank storage farm and rail access and warehouse space.

The plant will assist in heavy oil and oil sands mining and steam-assisted gravity drainage projects through its water treatment and fluid separation chemical production capabilities, the company said.

The facility, set to open in September, is expected to reduce process waste by more than 10% compared to conventional plants, the company said.

The multi-disciplinary operations centre in Fort McMurray will support oil sands projects in the area by providing dedicated warehouse and staging areas.

The centre, scheduled to open by 1 October, will feature Baker Hughes products and services such as oilfield chemicals, artificial lift systems and formation evaluation services, the company said.
