Saudi Aramco Complex to Produce 8 million Tons Each Year

Saudi Aramco has announced its proposed $20bn petrochemical project with Dow will have a production capacity of 8 million tons of products per year.

The Ras Tanura Integrated Project (RTIP) will consist of 35 processing units, each of which would be a major project in itself, Saudi Aramco said.

The RTIP complex, expected to be one of the largest chemical and plastics sites in the world, could become operational by 2015.

The complex will produce ethylene and polyethylene plastic, chlorine and caustic soda, as well as propylene oxide and propylene glycol, among other chemicals.

The project, which is still in its design phase, is not yet a joint venture.
