Sud-Chemie and Linde Launch German Biofuel Pilot Venture
Sud-Chemie and The Linde Group have jointly launched a pilot plant to produce eco-friendly biofuels based on lignocellulosic biomass, in Munich, Germany.
Sud-Chemie will concentrate on the biocatalysis and bioprocess engineering, while Linde works to implement chemical and biotechnological processes on a commercial scale.
The plant will produce two tons of bioethanol fuel annually using cereal straw, with construction of a bigger facility due to commence in the near future.
According to experts, the second-generation biofuels are more eco-friendly and energy efficient than those currently in use.
