Evonik begins construction of hexachlorodisilane facility in Germany
Germany-based Evonik Industries has begun construction of a second hexachlorodisilane production facility in Rheinfelden, Germany.
Hexachlorodisilane is used to manufacture the memory chips that are used smartphones, digital cameras, MP3 players or USB sticks.
Production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2012.
Evonik Resource Efficiency executive board member Thomas Haeberle said that the facility will further bolster the company's position as a provider of key raw materials for the electronics industry.
