Technip wins Qatari refinery EPC contract
France-based Technip has won an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the expansion of the Laffan Refinery, located in Ras Laffan, Qatar.
According to Reuters, the expansion will double the refinery's capacity to 292,000 barrels per day (bpd) and is expected to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2016.
The Ras Laffan plant produces 24,000bpd of gas oil, 52,000bpd of kerosene and jet fuel, and 8,000bpd of liquefied petroleum gas.
The study is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2012 and will be executed by Technip, with the EPC contract to be awarded by the third quarter of 2012.
Qatar aims to supply petrochemical industries across South East Asia and Europe.
