Samsung Petrochemical brings forward Ulsan PTA production
Samsung Petrochemical is to begin production at its newly expanded 400,000t per year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) line in Ulsan, South Korea, earlier than expected in September / October 2011.
The KRW60bn ($56m) expansion project started in October 2010 and was scheduled to be completed at the end of this year.
The expansion will boost Samsung Petrochemical's total PTA production capacity to two million tonnes per year.
The company has three PTA lines at the Ulsan complex on the south coast and one line on the west coast at Seosan.
PTA is used in the production of conveyor belts, fishing nets, PET bottles, film and engineering plastics.
