China Petroleum & Chemical (Sinopec) and Syntroleum have opened a new 80bpd coal to liquids demonstration facility in Zhenhai, China.
The Sinopec / Syntroleum Demonstration Facility uses Syntroleum-Sinopec Fischer Tropsch technology to convert coal, asphalt and petroleum coke into high value synthetic petrochemical feedstocks.
Syntroleum president and CEO Gary Roth said the facility will make a significant contribution to the global endeavour of pursuing alternative feedstocks for growing economies.
As part of Sinopec and Syntroleum's 2009 technology transfer agreement, Sinopec relocated Syntroleum's natural gas-fed Catoosa Demonstration Facility to the Zhenhai Refining and Petrochemical Complex in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, for joint technology development.
Sinopec intends to build commercial-scale coal and petroleum coke-based Fischer Tropsch facilities using Syntroleum-Sinopec technology.
