Chinese Firm to Build Refinery and Petrochemical Plant in Brunei
China's Zhejiang Hengyi Group has received approval from the Brunei Government to build a $6bn refinery and aromatics cracker complex in Brunei.
The first phase project at Pulau Muara Besar will include construction of a $2.5bn refinery and petrochemical units that will produce 135,000 barrels a day.
The refinery and aromatics cracker project will comprise the production of petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel and jet A-fuel, as well as paraxylene and benzene which are used in textile production.
Sinopec Engineering will undertake a detailed engineering study over the next 12 months before construction of the plant begins.
The $3.5bn second phase expansion will produce olefins for making plastics.
