Bayer MaterialScience to Boost Polycarbonate Capacity in Europe

Bayer MaterialScience is planning to invest €90m to increase polycarbonate capacity at its Krefeld-Uerdingen site in Germany.

The plant is currently producing 330,000t of polycarbonate a year. The expansion will see this rise to 400,000t a year over the next four years.

Polycarbonate is used in automobile production and in electronic products such as liquid crystal display television screens. The firm believes that polycarbonate demand is expected to increase around 5% in Europe and Asia.

In addition, the company is also rebuilding chlorine production facilities to increase energy efficiency by using membrane technology.
