Qatar Petrochemical to Launch Polyethylene Plant Next Year

Qatar Petrochemical Company will launch its new low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plant, known as LDPE-3, in the first quarter of 2012.

The plant is to be located in Mesaieed, Qatar, and will have production capacity of 300,000t of LDPE a year.

The company currently operates two LDPE production plants, LDPE-1 & LDPE-2, which have a capacity of more than 400,000t a year.

With the new units, the company aims to become one of the major LDPE producers in the world.

Meanwhile, the company expects revenue from its petrochemical business to increase to QAR6.4bn ($1.75bn) in 2015, compared with QAR5bn ($1.3bn) this year.
