BioAmber and Mitsubishi Chemical have signed a strategic agreement with Mitsubishi Chemical, making BioAmber and its Asian distribution partner Mitsui the exclusive suppliers of bio-based succinic acid to Mitsubishi Chemical.
The three companies are also planning to build a succinic acid production plant next to Mitsubishi's planned polybutylene succinate production plant in Thailand.
The firms will use Mitsubishi's succinic acid technology in BioAmber's biosuccinic platform to produce low cost succinic acid that will reduce manufacturing costs of Mitsubishi Chemical's polybutylene succinate, a renewable, biodegradable polymer.
The firm had also secured the right to source bio-based polybutylene succinate from Mitsubishi Chemical for its modified polybutylene succinate polymers, which are marketed through BioAmber's Sinoven Biopolymers subsidiary.
