Dow Chemical is planning to build an ethylene plant on the US Gulf coast, which is expected to start in 2017.
The chemical major is also planning to restart a cracker plant near Hahnville, Louisiana, next year, which was shut during the recession.
Dow Chemical is also considering whether to build a propylene plant at Freeport, Texas.
The projects will increase Dow's ethylene production capacity by 2.3 million tons a year, a 20% increase in Gulf Coast capacity.
Dow also plans to improve its ethane feedstock flexibility for an ethylene cracker at Plaquemine, Louisiana, in 2014 and increase ethane feedstock for an ethylene cracker in Texas in 2016.
The US-based chemical company is planning to commercialise its own technology to produce propylene from propane and is expected to start a new unit using the technology in 2018.
