Honeywell to Provide Process Control for UAE Fertliser Plant

Honeywell has been selected by Samsung Engineering to deliver an integrated process control system for Fertil-2, a new fertiliser plant being built near Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Honeywell will use its Process Knowledge System and safety manager to fully automate the facility and increase output for ammonia and urea used in fertiliser production by up to 50%.

Samsung Engineering has been engaged by Ruwais Fertilizer Industries, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, to develop the new fertiliser plant.

Honeywell's Process Knowledge System will enable the plant to produce ammonia and urea in capacities of 2,000-3,500t per day respectively.

The project will also improve the plant's process-safeguarding protocols, such as emergency shutdowns, fire and gas monitoring, and critical application control.

The plant is scheduled to become operational in January 2013.
