Sinopec Begins Work on Aromatics Plant in Kazakhstan


China's Sinopec Tenth Construction Company has started work on a 500,000t a year aromatics plant at Kazakhstan's Atyrau oil refinery.

Kazakhstan's state-owned KazMunaiGaz had awarded a $1.04bn engineering, procurement and construction contract to Sinopec Engineering to build the plant in 2009.

The plant will produce up to 133,000t a year of benzene and 496,000t a year of paraxylene.

The plant will be built in two phases and is scheduled to be operational in 2013.

The Sinopec Tenth Construction Company, is the construction unit of Sinopec Group.
