M Setek to Restart Polysilicon Plant in June

4 April 2011

M Setek has announced that it plans to resume polysilicon production at its plant in Soma City, Japan, in June.

Operations were suspended after the 11 March earthquake led to power disruption in the region.

The company, a unit of Taiwan's AU Optronics, expects to get as much as 20,000kV of power a month from the Tohoku Electric Power from June, which is enough to produce 100t of polysilicon.

The plant has a capacity of 7,000t per year.

Polysilicon is used in the production of solar panels and semiconductors.
