Bayer to Build Isophorone Diisocyanate Plant in China

Bayer MaterialScience is planning to build a plant to produce isophorone diisocyanate, a coating raw material, at its integrated site in Shanghai, China.

Bayer is planning to invest €65m at the plant and it is expected to open in 2015.

The plant is part of the Germany-based chemical company’s €1bn expansion plan in China.

With this project, the total investment of Bayer MaterialScience in China has increased to more than €3bn.

Isophorone diisocyanate is used as a raw material primarily in high-grade polyurethane coatings for applications such as for automotive finishing.
