PPG Industries has reached an agreement to acquire certain assets of Equa-Chlor, a producer of chlorine, caustic soda and muriatic acid.
PPG plans to acquire Equa-Chlor's manufacturing operations, which produce approximately 220t of chlorine per day.
The deal is likely to be completed during the first half of 2011.
PPG senior vice-president of commodity chemicals Michael McGarry said that the acquisition will give PPG's chlor-alkali and derivatives business a strategic foothold in the west of the US.
PPG manufactures chlor-alkali and derivates products in Quebec in Canada and through a majority-owned subsidiary in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Chlorine and caustic soda, products of the chlor-alkali sector, are used in the manufacture of paper, textiles, pharmaceuticals and polyvinyl chloride.
