Wacker Chemie to Expand Polysilicon Capacity in Germany
Wacker Chemie is planning to invest 130m to expand its production of hyperpure polysilicon at two plants in Germany.
The company is planning to debottleneck its plant in Burghausen to increase polysilicon capacity by 5,000t/year, bring total capacity to 37,000t/year.
The polysilicon facility at Nünchritz is under construction and is scheduled to come onstream by the year’s end. It has capacity to produce 10,000t/year; following the expansion this will increase to 15,000t/year.
The company is also planning to build a new polysilicon plant in Cleveland, Tennessee, US, which will have a production capacity of 15,000t/ year. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.
Wacker's total hyperpure-polysilicon production capacity is expected to increase to 67,000t/year by 2014.
