EU Bans Bisphenol A in Baby Bottles

The European Union is to ban polycarbonates containing bisphenol A from use in baby feeding bottles from 1 June 2011.

The EU Health and Consumer authority has cited studies that indicate the substance might have an effect on development and immune response, as well as promote tumours.

The decision follows months of discussion between the European Commission's services, the European Food Safety Authority, member states and the industry.
