Definition:

An Environmental Quality Standard represents the maximum allowed concentration or target level of a pollutant or potentially toxic substance. The Environmental Quality Standard is a regulatory value, often defined in law, generally relating to environmental samples of air or water. It is also sometimes known as the Ambient Standard.
