BS&B Safety Systems - Rupture Disk, Bursting Disk, Buckling Pin Valve and Explosion Protection Technology

BS&B Safety Systems manufacture and distribute pressure relief technology globally. The leader in rupture discs and bursting discs for over 75 years, BS&B products are designed for the industrial process industries including chemical, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food and beverage, and for the OEM industry ranging from fire protection to automotive.

Buckling pin valve technology provides cost saving alternate pressure relief solutions to the energy industry. Explosion protection technology, designed especially for application to material handling equipment, protects personnel and plant from the effects of dust and gas explosions.

RUPTURE DISK / BURSTING DISK

Designed to provide reliable and accurate pressure relief at a chosen pressure and temperature, the rupture disc (termed bursting disc in Europe) changes from a seal to full open in an instant making it an excellent choice for both primary relief and isolation of pressure relief valves.

When applied to a valve inlet, the rupture disk protects from the rigors of normal process operation by maintaining a leak tight seal. Applied to a valve outlet, a rupture disk prevents any undesirable back pressure influence and blocks relief line process materials from reaching the valve.

Manufactured in nominal sizes from ¼in (6mm) to 44in (1,100mm), BS&B rupture disk technology choices meet both performance requirements and budget.

BUCKLING PIN VALVE

An alternative to the rupture disk, the buckling pin valve provides pressure relief that meets the needs of continuous processes. The buckling pin controls valve operation and is installed externally to the process. This allows pin replacement without removing the valve from the process line, under normal circumstances. Typically applied to larger line sizes, the buckling pin valve is reset in place by one person in a few minutes compared to the hours required to replace a rupture disk or remove and retest a pressure relief valve.

Manufactured in nominal sizes from 2in (50mm) to 72in (1,800mm), this technology is especially well suited to energy industry applications where fast reset of pressure relief systems is essential and to hazardous service in the process industry to achieve minimum process exposure time of personnel.

EXPLOSION PROTECTION TECHNOLOGY

BS&B 'venting' and 'suppression' technology protects low strength equipment such as dust collectors, dryers, cyclones, silos and grinding systems from the destructive effects of a deflagration. Protection of connected pneumatic systems is provided by either mechanical or chemical isolation.

Hybrid applications of venting, isolation and suppression technology often provide the most cost effective protection.

Comprehensive 'risk assessment' by BS&B evaluates protection strategies in line with codes and standards.

TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP - BEGINS WITH A COMMITMENT TO CODES AND STANDARDS

All BS&B manufacturing locations operate to certified ISO 9001 quality standards. These facilities, located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA; Limerick, Ireland; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Chennai, India, Edmonton, Canada and Monterrey, Mexico, when combined with additional marketing hubs in Singapore and Tokyo, Japan, provide quality customer service on a local scale.

BS&B rupture disk / bursting disk technology is available certified according to the ASME Code with a "UD" stamp applied to both disk and safety head (holder) and to the European Code EN 4126-2 with a "CE" mark applied to both disk and bursting disc holder. Additional international standards such as ISO and TUV are supported. buckling pin valves are also provided with the "UD" stamp or "CE" mark, as required.

The explosion protection solutions provided by BS&B follow either NFPA standards and guidelines (including NFPA 68, NFPA 69, NFPA 654) or the European ATEX directive.
