Burachem Cellflon – a Gasket for Demanding Applications

14 November 2007

With the Burachem Cellflon, Burgmann Industries of Wolfratshausen / Germany has launched a technically high-grade gasket for large components and special applications in the chemical industry, refineries and power stations. The Burachem Cellflon is an economically priced and universally deployable alternative to the known specialized PTFE seal variants, and is suited for demanding applications in which low rates of leakage are essential.

The seal tapes with self-adhesive backing are each available in three sizes. The microcellular ePTFE is particularly suitable for producing seals in any required form directly on-site. Its conformability is equally as good as that of expanded PTFE, and the remaining height is significantly greater while offering virtually equivalent creep and relaxation characteristics.

Installation is easy, straight from the roll in a matter of moments – without any clipping or preparation needed. The standardization to three material cross-sections means that reserve stocks can be significantly cut, and downtimes – especially where more complex sealing shapes or large flanges are concerned – are reduced considerably as result of the gasket's application customization and easy installation.

The Burachem Cellflon fills the application gap between conventional monoaxial and multidirectional ePTFE products, thus enabling inexpensive sealing for applications involving temperatures between -240°C and +250°C with virtually all kinds of media, both in steel and as well as plastic flanges and apparatus. Sealing cords from the Cellflon series are available in the sizes 9*3, 14*3and 19*3mm. Like in the familiar board segment, the three colors (as shown on the photo) – white, blue and brown – stand for the fillers (white = unfilled, ie 100% PTFE; blue = hollow glass balls, brown = quartz sand).
