Food and flavours: creating value with natural ingredients
BioAmber BIO-SA™ succinic acid and bio-based disodium succinate are safe, food and flavours ingredients, which can be used in a wide range of applications. Succinic acid is a naturally occurring dicarboxylic acid found in fruit and vegetables. Our BIO-SA™ brand offers multiple benefits in food applications as a flavouring enhancer and also as an acidulant or preservative. It is also a natural, non-toxic alternative to petroleum-based additives and is generally recognized as safe (GRAS).
BioAmber neutralises and spray-dries bio-based succinic acid to a tight particle size distribution to produce bio-based disodium succinate, an important ingredient for complex seasoning agents. Bio-based disodium succinate has good water solubility and high penetration and, as a result, these effects are accelerated. It is an anhydrous powder with low particle size, making it ideal for blending in dry seasonings.
Resins and coatings: creating value through a unique combination of performance and sustainability
BioAmber bio-based succinic acid is a versatile building block for the synthesis of polyesters and polyester polyols (PEP's).
Manufactured using patented yeast fermentation technology, our bio-based succinic acid offers an alternative to petroleum-based adipic and isophthalic acids. Polyols based on our bio-based succinic acid can be used in unsaturated polyester resins (UPR's), polyurethanes, alkyds, and liquid polyester resins (LPE resins).
Polyurethanes: creating value through a unique combination of performance and sustainability
BioAmber bio-based succinic acid opens a gateway to a portfolio of renewable building blocks for innovative polyurethane formulations with improved properties and sustainability profile.
The shorter C4 succinic acid chain can change the H-bonding between hard blocks/soft blocks and increase polarity. When combined with different glycols, bio-based succinic acid can produce PEPs with a wide range of melting points and viscosities. This carbon neutral product is the perfect substitute to petroleum based adipic acid.
Personal care: creating value with natural personal care ingredients that perform
Bio-based succinic acid is a natural, plant-derived building block that can be used to formulate a broad range of bio-based esters for skincare and hair care, and as a direct ingredient with properties for effervescence and exfoliation.
C2-C5 esters have been shown to be effective solvents for fragrance carriers and a multitude of other applications, while C8-C18 esters exhibit unique emollient properties for skin and hair care. Bio-based succinic acid is also an effective effervescing agent.
