New food contact barrier treatment product from Clariant for pet food packs receives BfR approval.
Clariant's new fluoropolymer Cartafluor CFI has received BfR approval for food contact.
Developed by the Company to meet the highly demanding grease and moisture resistance requirements for food packaging, especially paper for pet food packs, the new product provides exceptional performance levels say the manufacturers.
Aimed at the premium product markets where technical performance and visual finish are equally important, Cartafluor CFI provides an effective barrier against the most aggressive fats and oils.
"The characteristics of Cartafluor CFI bring a new standard to this sector, offering paper and packaging manufacturers real benefits," says Clariant's Functional Coatings Product Manager, Niko Kinnunen.
The new product, which is supplied as a liquid, penetrates paper in a size press application on a paper machine rather than forming a film and provides a very efficient barrier to aggressive oils and fats whilst also providing enhanced water barrier properties. The product has already been approved under numerous rigorous market standard tests, proving its resilience even against the toughest oils and fats used in some applications.
Clariant's research and development in this area is continuing with Cartafluor CFI being the first of a new generation of innovative fluoro chemicals to enhance paper performance.
