Textile SPF System for New Euro Standard

Textile and clothing manufacturers now have to label clothing with the fabric's Sun Protection Factor (SPF). Children's clothing, for example, must have an SPF greater than 40. A new European Standard, EN 13758, defines the procedures to be used in the European Community for measuring the SPF for labelling purposes. The Camspec SPF system and software is used in textile laboratories around the world and a new version has been upgraded to comply fully with the new Standard, in addition to those applying in the UK, USA, Australia, and New Zealand.
Based on Camspec's M350 Double Beam UV/Visible Spectrophotometer, the system employs an integrating sphere that conveniently slides out of the instrument's sample compartment so that textile samples can be quickly and easily installed for measurement. Calibration filters, traceable to international standards, are available so that the system can be checked regularly as required by the Standard.
The instrument can be reconfigured as a normal spectrophotometer in a matter of seconds, using 10mm cuvettes for absorbance measurements over the wavelength range 190-1100nm - a useful workhorse for any laboratory.
