Camspec SPF and CSF Spectrophotometer Measurement Systems

06 September 2006 16:14

Camspec have updated their SPF and CSF systems to be compatible with the new M550 double beam scanning UV/Visible spectrophotometer.

The SPF system is for measuring the Sun Protection Factor (UPF) of textiles. Clothing fabrics are required to have a known UPF to reduce the risk of sun-burn through clothing, and to eliminate the risk with children's clothing (which must have a factor 40 or above).

The M550SPF system comprises an M550 spectrophotometer with a special version of the Camspec 50mm diameter integrating sphere modified for SPF, plus Camspec SPF measurement software. The system conforms to European, American and Australian/New Zealand Standards. Unlike some competitive systems, the performance is checked using absorbance standards traceable to NPL.

The CSF system is for the analysis of Cerebrospinal Fluid for Bilirubin (and the very similar measurement of Porphyrin in Urine). These measurements are required in hospital pathology laboratories.

The M550CSF system comprises an M550 spectrophotometer and Camspec CSF software. The sample is scanned between 600nm and 350nm.The software then automatically gives the final answer by calculating the correct peak start and end points and hence the peak heights. This eliminates the risk of miscalculations which can be caused by manual measurements.
