SWEP International PHE fills wide Gap in the Heat Exchange Market

08 January 2003

The problems of blockages and contamination encountered handling viscous fluids, solids or slurries can be solved by the range of wide gap plate heat exchangers developed by SWEP International PHE.

Gasketed plate heat exchangers can virtually eliminate downtime for cleaning through their free-flowing operation. With a draw depth two to five times greater than conventional plates, the proven plate and frame design has been adapted to provide unrestricted passage of coarse particles or fluids that contain fibres. Wide gap heat exchangers are available in a wide/narrow configuration when only one fluid requires a wide gap and a medium/medium configuration when both fluids need additional flow space. The wide gap plate design will also accommodate the high volumetric flows of low pressure steam applications.

Moreover, with heat transfer areas of 5.3, 9.0 and 16.8 sq ft, wide gap plates transfer heat more efficiently, typically from harsh waste streams in the pulp, paper, sugar processing, chemical and textile industries. The units also benefit from NBR or EPDM gaskets, allowing maximum temperatures of up to 270°F or 320°F respectively.

With a standard plate thickness of 0.8mm, with a 1mm option available, the plates are manufactured from durable and anti-corrosive materials stainless steel or titanium, and are available in Hastelloy for the most arduous duties as part of the Superchanger® range.

Alan Ashton, General Manager for SWEP in the UK, says: 'Our global expertise in the heat exchange market has enabled us to design a solution that is not only highly efficient, but which saves time, space and money for the processing industry.'

SWEP International PHE is a global leader in the manufacture of plate heat exchangers.
