Seebach Develops a New Production Technology for Filter Candles

01 June 2010

Seebach, based in Vellmar near Kassel (Germany), has developed a new production technology for filter candles, which are used in refineries for catalyst recovery. These filter candles are used in large bundles (several hundred units) in the FCC slurry oil filter and, due to the high wear, represent a substantial cost factor in this process.

The Seebach filter candles have two key advantages; The filter medium (a wire mesh laminate) is formed into a filter tube from one piece, allowing the common welds at the joints to be dispensed with. This reduces the risk of leakage.

The filter medium is superimposed on the candle in a way that allows it to be replaced easily. This reduces operating costs, since only the medium must be replaced after wear, while the entire base plate can continue to be used.

Mainly through its development of a recycling process for filter candles, this production technology represents a strategic development of the product range for the petrochemical industry. The products are now available.
