3M has announced its new filtration vessel – available for trial or rent - designed specifically for use with the 3M CUNO range of 740B filtration units. These units are proven to save oil companies considerable time and money compared to alternatives.
The first trial of the new filtration vessel at Cabot Specialty Fluids showed the operational life of the 5ix740B elements was extended by 60% over and above the traditional 5ix2x40 inch elements. According to the company's specialist filtration consultant Doug Florance: "This high-capacity cartridge differs from the competition. Our high-capacity cartridge design means fewer change-outs, resulting in less rig downtime."
"The 7 inch diameter 740B cartridge has 16m² of effective filtration surface area (compared to 1.4m² in a traditional 2 diameter cartridge) so users need fewer filters, require less storage space and can reduce transport/disposal costs," said Florance. "The patented radial pleat system offers increased flow rates and produces better quality effluent, ultimately making the system more environmentally compatible."
"It'sgood news for service providers as well as oil companies,” continues Florance. "The method can be positioned as a competitive differentiator. Service providers can use it to help oil companies improve the efficiency of filtration while at the same time, reducing total costs."
The vessel has DNV certification for use offshore, can be used with 2i, 5i and 10i 740B filter cartridges and has a vertical skid design, making it easy to manoeuvre on a rig or platform. The 740B is just part of the recently expanded 3M CUNO filtration solutions family.
