ATI Wah Chang - Zircadyne® Zirconium Corrosion-Resistant Alloy, Titanium and Niobium Corrosion-Resistant Alloys

It was not by accident that ATI Wah Chang started its own International Corrosion Conference back in 1997. For years, people had been looking to the company and its corrosion-resistant alloy products for the answers to many different corrosion and corrosion-related difficulties.

ZIRCADYNE® ZIRCONIUM CORROSION-RESISTANT ALLOY

It was in the early 1970s that ATI Wah Chang made its first sale of Zircadyne® zirconium corrosion-resistant alloy: to Monsanto for a chemical-processing application. Word of the significant success of this corrosion-resistant product at Monsanto spread, and industrial companies began to recommend utilizing Zircadyne® zirconium corrosion-resistant alloy for many different corrosion-prevention projects.

The applications that ATI Wah Chang’s Zircadyne® zirconium corrosion-resistant alloy began to be put to included columns, heat exchangers, reactor vessels, pumps and valves, piping, and other components and equipment. In some of these cases, it was reported that the protective Zircadyne® zirconium corrosion-resistant alloy equipment outlasted the processing operation it was installed to protect.

Zircadyne® zirconium is one of the most effective corrosion-resistant materials that can be used during the production of organic compounds. It is perfect for ensuring corrosion resistance against an extensive variety of such organic compounds, including acetic acid, acetic anhydride, formic acid, urea, methacrylic acid, methyl methacrylate, alcohol, rayon, hydroxyacetic acid, lactic acid, and phenolic resins.

Engineers often specifically recommend the use of Zircadyne® zirconium corrosion-resistant alloy because of the advantages it provides in improving process-efficiency, yield, product quality, plant safety, and environmental protection.

TITANIUM AND NIOBIUM ALLOYS FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS

While Zircadyne® zirconium corrosion-resistant alloy is ATI Wah Chang’s flagship metal-product for the chemical-processing industry, the company also produces corrosion-resistant titanium and niobium alloys for industrial applications.

Not only is niobium alloy well suited for superconductor-related applications, but it is also an extremely corrosion-resistant alloy. The versatile metal is uniquely suitable for fluoride containing acids, chlorine, and bromine.

In addition, ATI Wah Chang has alloyed niobium with titanium. This new and extremely corrosion-resistant alloy has enabled ATI Wah Chang to provide solutions to corrosion problems suffered by mineral-processing autoclaves and related applications.

The list goes on; wherever there is industry, there is an application waiting for ATI Wah Chang’s suite of acid-tested-tough, corrosion-resistant metal products.
