Manrochem Limited provides process engineering design, construction and installation management services to the pharmaceutical, fine chemicals and allied industries.

Manrochem Limited services are divided into three broad categories, namely Process Engineering, Safety and Construction.

Our offices are located in Huddersfield (UK), Stockton-on Tees (UK) and Chennai (formerly Madras, Southern India). Each office has process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control and project engineers. Civil and structural engineering is provided from central resource in conjunction with full EPCM services.

PROCESS ENGINEERING AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Process engineering covers traditional process engineering design, product development and process development for both new and existing products. Our Indian office has a particular expertise in processes/products from natural sources usually referred to as natural extractions.

RISK ASSESSMENT, RELIEF AND BLOWDOWN STUDIES

Our safety related activities include risk assessment for the process, product and project. Project risk assessment covers both the project risks and the construction activity as defined by the CDM Regulations in the UK. We also carry out studies for basis of safety, relief and blowdown, hazard and operability and zoning.

ENGINEERING, PROCUREMENT AND CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT

Construction activities are detailed design across all disciplines: procurement, expediting, construction management and site supervision. The work extends from mechanical completion through handover to process commissioning.

In addition to the above we have a secondment service to provide individual engineers in all disciplines to work on a client site under client instructions. Engineers for the Middle East and Far East market are provided from our Indian office.

PROCESS INTENSIFICATION

We are actively involved in Process Intensification, re-engineering a process to avoid scale-up, allowing a client to maximise return on investment by driving down lifecycle costs. Examples of this are a gas cleaning plant being designed to recover valuable feedstock and taking equipment and ideas from one industry sector and applying them to another.

This approach has seen cryogenic techniques applied to reactor design, plastics industry equipment modified for the pharmaceutical sector, modular construction for pharmaceutical/fine chemical manufacture and replacing sequential batch reactions with small-scale continuous plant.

The technique can be applied to new and existing processes when the drive to do something different is present. In our experience the limiting constraint is the ability to recognise there are alternative methods available. With this in mind the greatest benefits accrue when our involvement starts during the development laboratory stage.
