Degussa Launches Deloxan® Metal Scavengers

11 November 2005

Wolfgang/Hanau, Germany (3 November 2005). - Degussa AG has launched its Deloxan® metal scavengers as producs: Deloxan® THP II and Deloxan® MP. As macroporous organofunctional polysiloxanes, both products have excellent properties for removing Pd, Pt, Rh, Ag, Au, Zn, Cu and other transition metals from APIs and chemical processes. Deloxan® THP II carries thiourea as functional group while Deloxan® MP carries a thiol functionality.

Deloxan® products offer several advantages over organic polymers. The surface density of the Deloxan® metal scavengers is significantly higher than that of surface-modified or post-reacted polymers so more metals can be captured. By virtue of their inert backbone Deloxan® products are compatible with all solvents. They also exhibit high structural and thermal stability. In addition, they are easy to filter due to their bead shape and are stable in a wide pH range.

As a leading manufacturer of heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts, Degussa offers a broad range of ancillary services to support our customers, said Dr. Jürgen Krauter, head of marketing for the Deloxan® product lines. This is why we have launched these product lines. Our Deloxan® products make it easy to remove metals from APIs and nicely complement our heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts.

Both product lines can be used in batch mode or tubular plug-flow mode. In a batch reactor, the Deloxan® metal scavenger is added to the reaction mixture, stirred and filtered off.

An attractive alternative to the batch mode is Degussa's proprietary tubular plug-flow reactor mode of operation where the Deloxan® metal scavenger is put into a fixed-bed column. Easy to set up, this mode reduces overall batch time and eliminates the filtration step.

Sample kits are available through Degussa sales representatives or directly through Deloxan's website.
